Georgia Jane (Gomeroi Artist)
‘Nurture and Nature’
The connection that mothers have with their babies is like the connection between Aboriginal people and nature.
Kinship begins between mother and baby from the first thought of that baby, the connection we have with the land and water is eternal.
Mothers nurture their babies with the flow of milk from their breasts, Earth nurtures our people with the flow of waters coursing through our lands.
The blue represents the sea and waters that flow through New South Wales, the milk that flows through mother and baby and the knowledge that will flow across our communities from the project.
The arches at the bottom of the artwork represent the mothers’ breasts, the hills and the mountain ranges that spread across our lands.
The dots within the archways are our people and their travel across the land, they are the milestones that bind a mother and her baby in their journey.
The yellow figures are the sun, the moon, the stars, they are our communities, they are our sacred birthing places.
