Approval Process for Manuscript Submissions
All manuscripts that are intended to be published and involve any of the Gomeroi Gaaynggal Studies, are to be submitted to the Gomeroi Gaaynggal Advisory Committee for approval prior to publication.
Follow these 4 steps to submit your manuscript to the Gomeroi Gaaynggal Advisory Committee for approval:
-
The lead investigator will provide a final manuscript and a one-page summary of their findings to the study director for inclusion in the next Gomeroi Gaaynggal Advisory Committee meeting.
The template for this one-page summary has been created with guidance from the Gomeroi Gaaynggal Advisory Committee and can be downloaded below.
Importantly:
All one-page summaries should be community friendly and use strength-based language.
All Indigenous members of the research team, Advisory Committee, members of the Aboriginal Australian community who are consulted during the research and Aboriginal Australian research participants must be acknowledged for their contribution in either the authors listing or within the acknowledgement section, in all publications arising from their work.
The lead investigator on the manuscript will be given the opportunity to present and explain their work at the next Gomeroi Gaaynggal Advisory Committee meeting either in person or via Zoom link. Committee meetings occur every 3 months, so please allow up to 3 months for committee approval.
-
The Gomeroi Gaaynggal Director will inform the lead investigator of the Gomeroi Gaaynggal Advisory Committee decision via return email.
Only once approval from the Gomeroi Gaaynggal Advisory Committee is given may the lead investigator allow the manuscript to be published.
-
All manuscripts accepted for publication are to be sent to the Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council (AH&MRC) Human Reseearch Ethics Committee for review.
-
Lead investigators on manuscripts should be available to attend community consultations including Bumbira Arts and Culture Program workshops (for more information about this program click or go to our Bumbira Arts and Culture program tab).
Artworks created as a result of the workshop will be included on the one-page posters, this will be considered the final version of the poster which will then be distributed to community.
All one-page summaries approved by the Gomeroi Gaaynggal Advisory Committee will also be sent to Tamworth Local Aboriginal Land Council (TLALC) and the Tamworth Aboriginal Medical Service (TAMS). Both the TLALC and TAMs will help distribute final versions of the posters to the community.
Please use our Manuscript Submission Template below to structure your application and send it and a copy of your final manuscript to ggstudy@newcastle.edu.au
